ZIIPP-BOING-BOING-RRRRRR. Anyone who entered our new Innovation Space last week looked into highly concentrated faces. The "Scratch" programming environment is running on 14 laptops and the sound effects come from the sophisticated games that the kids have devised themselves and are programming with full commitment. It took a lot of persuasion to get the 12 boys and 2 girls to think about something other than their current software project for a moment.

Together with Coding4Kids, we organised the first holiday programming course and are still amazed at what "our" children learnt in just five days and, above all, immediately put into practice. The event was the perfect start for our Innovation Space, which offers an inspiring environment for new event formats relating to digitalisation.
100 % motivation
Mums and dads told us on the second day that the kids were still in a state of "flow" in the evening. The parents were informed about all the details of "sprites", "collision detection" and "parallax scrolling" until the children's tired eyes closed. The morning question as to who was still working on their project after the course in the evening was answered with many raised hands.

It's easier and faster in a team
Some of the kids already had experience with Scratch and actively supported the beginners with their knowledge - never arrogant, but always endeavouring to find a solution quickly in a spirit of partnership. It's nice to see children setting a good example without any preconceptions.
Fit for the screen
Getting the kids away from the screen was a real challenge. When the weather was good, however, we were able to use the facilities on our campus to really let the children burn off some energy outside.

Preparation for the professional world
It was exciting to see how the kids were able to gain valuable experience for their future careers. These include:
Why the project is so important to us
In short, we urgently need good employees. As a pioneer in the field of digitalisation with a strong growth strategy, we are particularly affected by the shortage of IT specialists. With Coding4Kids, we are endeavouring to launch a long-term initiative to ensure the next generation of talent in our industry.
To be continued....
We would like to thank the initiators of Coding4Kids for the perfect cooperation - especially the trainer Rüdiger, who looked after the children with a lot of patience, expertise and passion. Many parents and children have asked us when and how the programme will continue. Together with Coding4Kids, we are already in the process of implementing further formats outside of the summer holidays. We are also working together with HTLs and other educational institutions on further formats for young people.
