We developed our smartBoiler together with Austria Email, the Austrian market leader in hot water storage tanks. Equipped with IoT technology, commercially available domestic suspended storage tanks are made "smart" and securely connected to a virtual power plant via the mobile network of our parent company A1. Thanks to the mobile technology, no IT infrastructure is required on site - the smartBoiler is ready for immediate use.
In the course of the complete switch to renewable energy sources, our electricity grid is becoming increasingly susceptible to blackouts. Our innovative technology makes it possible for the first time for private households to help stabilise the power grid on a large scale.
Hot water storage tanks have a very high energy requirement, a fact that is becoming even more important today in the wake of the energy crisis. We help households to reduce their electricity costs in the long term by offering flexible heating times. The continuous further development of our solutions now makes it possible to efficiently utilise self-generated PV electricity for water heating on site in multi-party houses instead of feeding it into the grid at a flat rate.
Companies and research institutions are important partners and catalysts in achieving the energy transition. This is why VERBUND has been supporting pioneering projects that are the result of cooperation between business and science for more than 20 years with the VERENA Prize.
We are delighted about the nomination and wish all our fellow campaigners the best of luck for the final award ceremony on 15 November 2022
